Our story
A Thimphu company for travellers who would rather explore than simply visit.
Who we are
We chose the name because it describes the kind of travel we love: curious, unhurried, open to the side road. Bhutan rewards that kind of traveller more than any country we know.
Roam Bhutan is based in Babesa, on the southern edge of Thimphu. We plan private journeys across the kingdom — the western valleys, the temple country of Bumthang, the weaving villages of the east and the high trails between them.
We keep things personal. The same small team answers your first message, shapes your route, meets you at the airport and stays in touch every day you are here. We would rather look after a few travellers well than many in a hurry.
Our compass
Our logo holds a compass inside the “O” of ROAM, its needle half copper and half ink, pointing towards the next valley. The “A” has no crossbar, so it doubles as a mountain peak.
The three words beneath the name are the promises we plan every journey around.
Carefully planned journeys that feel effortless: the right hotel, the right guide, the right amount of time in each valley.
Beyond the famous sights — side valleys, weaving villages, hermitages and high camps most visitors never reach.
Moments that stay with you: butter tea in a farmhouse, a festival blessing, a quiet hour by a temple wall.
What we arrange
Bhutan asks visitors to travel thoughtfully, and we are glad to. We work with local guides, drivers, family-run hotels and farmhouses, keep groups small, and brief every guest on temple and festival etiquette.
The Sustainable Development Fee you pay each night goes to the Government of Bhutan for healthcare, education and conservation. We always show it separately.
Guest reviews
Exactly what I hoped for: quiet mornings, long walks and the cranes calling across the marsh. Staying three nights made all the difference.

Our kids (7 and 10) still talk about the paper-making and the rafting. Everything was paced for them, and the guide had endless patience with a hundred questions a day.

Watching the thongdrel appear at dawn was one of the most moving moments of my life. The planning before the trip was clear and honest, especially about the fees.
